Mark 10:16 “And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them”.

Have you wondered when and where the “Sunday School” started?

Way back in the mid-17th Century, Sunday Schools were started for the poor who could not afford education in England. The Sunday schools taught children proper behaviour, cleanliness, good manners and moral values. The Bible provided the text for teaching the truths of the Gospel. Un-churched poor children had the opportunity of knowing the love of the true living God and many children started to come and learn continuously.

What does St Mark’s Church Sunday school do?

The CSI St. Mark’s Church Sunday School strives to invest in the prime years of one’s life with the trust that spiritual nurture provided to children during their crucial foundational years will influence their entire life. Our children are competently assisted by teachers who have a vision for children and are skilled to work with them. Our Sunday school caters to 50 plus children. Our dedicated teachers use different methods of teaching to impart Biblical truths and spiritual values to the children. They are taught new choruses and action songs and are encouraged to memorize as much Scripture as possible.

Children are engaged through various activities like group discussions, quizzes, games and other activities that are intentionally and strategically packed around the word of God. The Sunday School happens during the sermon time – while adults spend time around the Word of God, children do the same in their own way. Children enthusiastically participate in Christmas plays, Children’s Sunday events and other Programs in Church. All the children are encouraged to participate in the Scripture exams, Rallies and Competitions conducted by the CSI Madras Diocese. A Children’s Retreat is organized once a year, when children are given time to renew their faith and develop a deeper thirst for the Lord.

Every year, Vacation Bible School (VBS) is arranged in our Church in the month of May as an outreach ministry to the children in and around Madipakkam. It is a blessing from our Heavenly Father that children of all religion take active part and learn the truths of the living God through this ministry.
